With Covid 19, the work of a pastor has
been much more difficult. We have seen what a great job Mark
has done with Facebook and on YouTube. This is the only way
our Church was able to continue to serve it’s congregation.
Early, he was preaching to empty pews. That task was
especially difficult, so we took the photos from the Church
Directory and blew them up and taped them to the pews, so he
wouldn’t feel so alone.
Later when the choir was able to join
things got better. Finally, we have seen more faces join us
at Sunday service. What a blessing. Visiting our shut-ins
and those in the hospital or nursing facility have been the
most difficult. Trying to minister through a window is nearly
impossible. That hasn’t stopped Mark from going and trying to
visit all our congregation who have found themselves isolated
from their families and their minister.
Church is open. Every other pew is off
limits, but there is still plenty of room and lots of folding
chairs at the rear of the sanctuary. Church is different, but
we carry on. God wants us do our best, even when times are
tough. We still recommend you wear a face mask and keep your
distance. Hugging, which was a large part of greeting folks
here at FUMC Mertzon is put on hold, but the love shown the
congregation by Mark and Barbara is clear and always present.
In keeping with our tradition of expressing
our thanks and praise for our Pastor, please mail or drop off
cards and letters at the Church. While other small gifts of
appreciation are ok, they are not necessary. A note, or a
joke about Mark’s last fishing expedition are great.
The mailing address is P.O. Box 583,
Mertzon, Texas 76941. You can also leave these notes or
letters on his desk.
Let’s knock his socks off with an
outpouring of appreciation with our thoughts, prayers, and
letters. Ok, let’s get out our pens and cards and get busy
telling Mark and Barbara how much they are loved.
Mum is the word. Let’s keep this a secret
from Mark and Barbara and just let it happen.
Blessings,
Brenda White
Lay Leader,
FUMC Mertzon
Note: Pastor Mark and Barbara will not
see this post. I will put them back on the reflector
tomorrow. Bob Heiser
