The hits just keep on a-comin’.
Rev Becky Baxter Ballou in Eagle Pass reports she sort of became a mother again today. A 19-year-old Honduran woman on the Mexican side was full-term pregnant and became separated from her husband, who was apprehended as a single adult male by
the Border Patrol and scheduled for deportation, leaving her alone in Piedras Negras with a baby on the way any time. Her solution was to swim the river alone and try to find help. She was picked up by the Border Patrol…started into labor…was taken to the
hospital…and with Becky and Rosa Linda at her side delivered Baby Mateo. Baby, mother, and pastor are recovering fine.
A donor from one of our district churches sent a box of new shoes (from Payless, at a going-out-of-business discount) to EP, and the volunteers took a big load of them to the asylum-seekers’ children as soon as they arrived. They said the kids
were overwhelmed with not only new shoes, but Disney princess and cars-movie shoes, and they lit up when they walked in them! Becky said the kids about wore them out running up and down watching the lights flash. Check the last picture following of Art Mavrode’s
