A well-informed and compassionate local church can often be an effective source for the support and solutions that these Service Members, Veterans, and their Families (SMVF) are seeking. Military Informed Ministry training is designed to inform, equip, and inspire local church leaders in the Concho Valley region to be "Warrior Wise" in reaching out and ministering to those SMVF who may be struggling. The topics will include Military Culture, the Invisible Wounds of War/Trauma (focusing on Moral Injury), Rural and Women Veterans Mental Health, Practical Ideas/Examples and List of Resources. Dr. Craig Combs is a retired Texas Army National Guard Chaplain with 26 years of service, including two combat tours in Iraq in which he earned a Combat Action Badge and two Bronze Star Medals. He retired in 2014 as an O6/COL and as the Command/State Chaplain for the Texas National Guard, receiving the Legion of Merit Medal for his service. He holds a Master in Theology (ThM) degree from Dallas Theological Seminary and a PhD in Family Education from Texas Tech University. He now serves as the Community Partner Coordinator for the Veterans Mental Health Program (VMHP) at the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC). Craig resides in Argyle, Texas and is married with five grown children, three daughter-in-laws and six grandchildren. He has a passion for spending time with family, especially in the outdoors, and for serving those who have sacrificially served our Nation in uniform.
