A note to the Churches and Pastors of the West District-

I appreciate your valuable time. My name is Steve Whitson and I
currently serve as the Disaster Response Coordinator for the West
District. I am proudly a member of the First United Methodist Church
of Menard. I am a retired (not really retired) Firefighter/ Paramedic.
I also serve as Team Leader for the Menard Mission Team.

If your community suffers extensive damage from flooding, tornadoes,
and high winds please let me know. This is a huge District and I need
your help.Rio Texas has resources that could help in this situation.
These resources can be combined with other agencies.  Rio Texas
Disaster Response currently has substantial resources located in the
warehouse in Kerrville. If your Church would like a program on
Disaster Response and Mission Teams- we would be happy to come and
provide. We will try to bring the Response Trailer if possible.

An ERT class is being conducted in San Angelo at Sierra Vista on July
17th. You can register online at riotexasresponse.org. Please look at
your church and community as a place for volunteers. This training is
provided by the Rio Texas Disaster Trainers but is open to everyone.
We are currently working on a more regional Team approach- so if you
even have one person that's interested-it will work. Our goal is to be
available closer to home to provide assistance. Therefore even small
Churches and other groups and churches in your communities can come
together. Please consider reaching out to others in your communities.
Many ERTs are older (even bad backs) and can always find a job to do.
ERTs perform many roles to include logistics, assessment, safety,  and
support functions.  So please  bring this up at your church and
community meetings. Trained ERTs can work and lead in their local
communities. We need you. If you are an ERT now and need to recertify
- you can do this online.

Our local Community has come together to form the Menard Mission Team.
With the help of the great people of Sonora- this has happened. We have
Team Leaders and members from 6 different churches. We now have a
Disaster Response Trailer located in Menard.  We are continuing to
accumulate additional supplies (in the store room) that can be brought
if needed.  It is available with various equipment (fans, sump pumps,
shop Vacs,  generators and tarping supplies.  This  can be loaned to
your Church if the situation arises. Hopefully we will also have
volunteers to help  also.  Our goal is to lead more people to work
together. We look forward to learning from you.  Join with Us.  Your
help is needed.

Feel free to provide your input and ideas.
