Our Prayer Shawl group continues to make sleeping mats for the homeless community.  Recently we gave 19 mats out to that group.  Our biggest need to make this happen is for plastic bags to be donated/recycled to our ministry.  Since the pandemic, we aren’t getting many bags.  We desperately need these donated plastic grocery bags.  We don’t care what color or their size.  We only ask that they be clean.  Any shopping bag will work if they are not too stiff.  So, Please, Please start bringing those plastic bags in and place them in Room 1 and we will take it from there.

On October 30, we will once again be giving out mats and RAK bags to the homeless community. That event will be at FUMC San Angelo in the courtyard starting at 4 pm to 5:30 pm.   Masks are mandatory at the event.

We have recently expanded our Prayer Shawl Ministry to include neck scarfs for the cold weather.  We have lots of yarn scraps that can turn into something nice and warm.  We will be offering these neck wraps at the event as well.  Any who can knit or crochet can join us for this work.  We meet from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

We do the social distancing thing, and if more join us we will wear masks and move to a larger room.  The mask thing is up to each person.  All you need to bring on Wednesday are knitting needles or your crochet hooks.  If you want to learn to knit or crochet, we can teach you.

We’ve been talking about Joy during our Children’s Church portion of Sunday Worship.  You can see Joy on the faces of those who receive these mats, RAK bags and neck scarfs.  Joy is something that is a two way street.  You give Joy by doing something for someone in need.  You receive Joy when you see the smiles on their faces when they receive that gift.

So, let’s spread the Joy.

Blessings,

Brenda White
