HHSC Encouraging Participation in 2020 Census

The 2020 U.S. Census is well underway, and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is encouraging HHSC contractors, their staff and clients to participate in the census if they have not already done so.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 54 percent of Texans have responded to the census — trailing the U.S. national average of 59 percent.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us the importance of having resources on hand to help our state receive the services Texans need to stay healthy and safe. Federal funding of such valuable resources depends on the census-gathered size and scope of our population.

That is why we want every Texan to be counted. Filling out the census is required by law and helps agencies like HHSC plan for the future of all Texans. Please help us spread the word.

You can respond to the census online, by phone or by mail.

Information collected by the U.S. Census Bureau can only be used to produce statistics. The U.S. Census Bureau is required by law to protect your answers and keep them confidential and is forbidden to share any identifiable information about you or anyone in your household or business with anyone, including law enforcement agencies.
