Update on dad So they tried to wake him up again earlier this morning and it didn’t go well. They tried once this morning and he started resisting it again and was unable to follow commands again. His heart started going through tachycardia again and so they had to put him back under. They tried a second time when his doctor was in and he did the same thing so his doctor decided to chemically paralyze him again for his own safety. Tachycardia is when the heart beats extremely fast for no apparent reason. He has had problems with this in the past and had a procedure done about a year ago that basically shocked his heart back into a normal rhythm. Right now his heart rate is staying steady around 170bpm even though he is sedated. The cardiologist came in earlier and stated that since he was bleeding internally after the surgery, they had to take him off blood thinners, which worked because his blood levels have lined out. The bad part about that is they can’t shock his heart right now to get it back to normal because he has to be on blood thinners for the procedure because it could cause a blood clot that could lead to a stroke. The cardiologist thinks that the tachycardia is coming from his body being under so much stress over the last few days since the emergency surgery. They are trying to control the tachycardia with medication right now and if that doesn’t work in a day or so then they will weigh the risks with the shock procedure. As of right now the main factor in keeping him sedated is his heart. His oxygen is also a factor but it is getting better. He was down to 40% assisted oxygen yesterday and is still at 40% but the machine is doing the breathing because of the chemical paralysis. Dad basically has 10 more days to come out of this before they have to take out the intubation tube. If he is still where he is at in 10 days, a decision will have to me made to either take out the tube and make him comfortable and hope that he can come out of this on his own or give him a tracheotomy so that they can still help him with the breathing machine. He still has a long way to go before he gets out of the woods. Much prayers still needed. Thank you for your prayers and love for my parents. May God bless you and yours abundantly!!
